I am a purist when it comes to bourbon. I like my bourbon neat and, generally speaking, I do not believe that good bourbon should be used for mixed drinks. But, I do like Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey mixed with coke. Nothing beats an ice cold Jack and Coke on a hot day. Recently, I tried a dry soda, which means the soda carries with it the flavor it is intended to impart but without the sweetness commonly found in typical soda pop. The dry soda I tried was Dry’s Sparkling Vanilla Bean.

I liked the dry soda right away. It has a subtle taste of vanilla and is only slightly sweet. I decided to mix it with Jack Daniels and I instantly became hooked. Three ounces of Jack to twelve ounces of the dry soda made a great mix. The flavor of the whiskey melds perfectly with the vanilla and slight sweetness. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
